Youth Activities

SCSA offers a variety of youth shooting and educational opportunities. Our Juniors/Youth Director helps to plan and organize events year-round that are tailored to a welcome and relaxed environment for young people of all skill levels.

Contact the Juniors/Youth Director for more details and review the SCSA Calendar for specific events and dates.

Sheridan County Sportsmen’s Association youth shooting activities, in conjunction with Sheridan County 4-H Shooting Sports, are designed to teach and promote youth shooters in the highest standards of ethical behavior, sportsmanship, and safety through shooting and hunting related activities.

Youth shooters, through the shooting disciplines, will be taught the safe use of firearms, different shooting positions, firearm care, and shooting techniques. During shooting activities youth shooters will develop self-discipline, concentration, and decision making through educational and socially acceptable involvement in shooting sports activities.

Youth participants, in addition to firearm shooting opportunities in .22 rifle, air rifle, .22 pistol, air pistol, shotgun, and muzzleloader, are able to participate in archery shooting activities where they will shoot standard blue face targets and 3-D animal targets. Archery equipment can include recurve, long, or compound bows.

In addition to shooting events, hunting related activities are also a program focus. These include hunting ethics, wildlife identification, and basic compass orienteering. All shooting and hunting related activities are designed to strengthen individuals through lifelong recreational shooting and outdoor opportunities.
